Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

At Valley View, we have high aspirations and ambitions for our children and we believe that no child should be left behind. We strongly believe that it is not about where you come from but your passion and thirst for knowledge, and your dedication and commitment to learning that make the difference between success and failure. We are determined to ensure that our children are given every chance to realise their full potential. Pupil premium funding represents a significant proportion of our budget and this policy outlines how we will ensure it is spent to maximum effect.

Pupil Premium is a government initiative that targets extra money at pupils from deprived backgrounds. Research shows that pupils from deprived backgrounds underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers. The premium is provided to ‘close the gap’ and to enable them to be supported to reach their potential.

The Government has used pupils entitled to free school meals (FSM), looked after children (CLA) and service children as indicators of deprivation, and have provided a fixed amount of money for schools per pupil based on the number of pupils registered for FSM over a rolling six year period.

The Pupil Premium grant amount for the financial year 2024-2025 is £1480 per child. Schools also receive £633 for every pupil who has left local authority care through adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order. And schools receive £340 for every pupil with a parent who is serving in HM Forces or has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence. This funding is to help with pastoral support.

Schools are free to make decisions about using pupil premium funding in ways that fit the needs of their own children and that they think will best raise the achievement of those specific pupils in line with pupils in the school who are not in receipt of Pupil Premium funding and the achievement of those children nationally.  At Valley View, we recognise that all children are different, and the challenges are varied.  We will target the use of Pupil Premium Funding to support us in closing gap and raising achievement.
